Okinawa Autotech, one of India's leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers has announced that it sold 15,976 electric two-wheelers in Q1 FY2022. The sales include around 2,369 FAME II-compliant electric two-wheelers and 13,607 non-FAME II-compliant electric two-wheelers.

The company says the higher adoption of e2Ws is on account of rising fuel prices as well as the supportive policies from several state governments inducing customers to opt for electric mobility.

In terms of month-wise consolidated sales (high-speed and low-speed e2Ws) Okinawa says it sold 4,467 units in April, 5,649 units in May, and 5,860 units in June. The company says it got positive response on the back of vast product portfolio, geographical expansion, and the rising adoption of e-mobility in the country, the company has expanded its presence with a huge customer base in the Southern states of India like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra with the highest number of buyers in Madya, Bangalore, Kanchipuram, Nellore & Pune.

Jeetender Sharma, MD and founder, Okinawa Autotech said, After the revision to the FAME II scheme, we saw a significant increase in demand for e-scooters, and as fuel prices have risen, people have also begun to prefer the E2W over combustion-powered two-wheelers, in part because the operating costs of e-scooters are only a tenth of those of combustion-powered two-wheelers. With these two major factors, we sold 5,860 scooters of various models in the last month - 80% (4,860 units) of which were our high-speed scooters. Moreover, we have been receiving an increasing number of requests and inquiries, close to a two-fold increase, from prospective consumers for various scooter models in local showrooms across India. We are satisfied with the subsidies provided by both the federal and state governments.”

The company says amongst its range of scooters, iPraise + along with Praise Pro were the most favoured EV two-wheelers. They topped the best-seller chart leading to a great expansion in numbers. At present, the company has a network of more than 350 dealers across India, catering to not only metro cities but also Tier-2, Tier-3 and rural regions of the country.
