New Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG to launch within six months

Maruti Suzuki has just introduced the second-gen Ertiga in the Indian market. Prices for the new MPV start at Rs 7.74 lakh for the base LXi petrol variant and go up to Rs 10.90 lakh for the top-spec ZXi+ diesel version.

The second-gen Ertiga gets the recently introduced 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine good for 105hp and 138Nm of torque. This motor is paired with Maruti’s new SHVS smart hybrid tech that made its debut earlier this year on the Ciaz facelift. The petrol smart hybrid set-up on the Ertiga features dual batteries for the idle start-stop system and the torque assist function, which help the new MPV achieve a fuel economy figure of 19.34kpl – up from 17.50kpl seen in the previous-gen petrol-manual car. On the flip side, the Ertiga diesel soldiers on with the same 90hp, 1.3-litre diesel fitted in the previous-gen model.

While Maruti has launched the second-gen Ertiga with petrol and diesel powertrains, the company has refrained from introducing a CNG variant at launch. The outgoing Ertiga CNG has been a popular choice for many fleet and private buyers, alike. Sources tell us that the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG will be launched within six months and the company is currently in the process of fine-tuning the 1.5-litre motor with CNG fuel. There are talks of the model being continued to be offered with Smart Hybrid tech and a dual-battery set-up with the CNG trims as well; but more details are expected to surface close to its market introduction.
