Ahead of India’s 69th Independence Day, the government has decided to slash prices of petrol and diesel in the country by Rs 1.27 per litre and Rs 1.17 per litre, respectively.
With the latest price revisions effective midnight, the price of petrol in Delhi will fall to Rs 63.20 a litre and diesel will cost Rs 44.95 a litre in the city. The difference between the two fuels now stands at Rs 18.25 a litre.
Prices of petrol and diesel were last revised on August 1 and since the last price change, there has been a decrease in international prices of both petrol and diesel, said state-owned oil marketing company Indian Oil in a release.
This, despite depreciation in the exchange rate, warrants a downward revision in prices, the impact of which is being passed on to the consumers with this price decrease, added the state-owned company.
