August opened up with good news for motorists, who now get more mileage for their money. Effective August 1, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs 2.43 a litre and diesel by Rs 3.60 a litre. The price differential between the two fuels in Mumbai now is Rs 18.22 a litre.
As a result of the latest change, the prices of petrol in the four major metros are Mumbai (Rs 69.51), Delhi (Rs 64.47), Kolkata (Rs 69.15) and Chennai (Rs 64.70). The new diesel prices are Mumbai (Rs 51.29), Delhi (Rs 46.12), Kolkata (Rs 49.66) and Chennai (Rs 47.30).
Fuel prices were last revised on July 15 when petrol and diesel both became cheaper by Rs 2 a litre. Prior to that, on July 1, petrol price was cut marginally by 31 paise a litre and diesel by 71 paise a litre.
The price revisions are mainly due to the falling price of international crude.
