Motherson Sumi Systems sets up new company to focus on innovations
Motherson Innovations is SMG’s attempt to leverage all the design and innovation skills from across its group companies.
Motherson Sumi Systems, part of the multi-product and diversified Samvardhana Motherson Group (SMG), has set up a new company called Motherson Innovations.
The new company, which came into being about a year ago, is SMG’s attempt to leverage all the design and innovation skills from across the group companies. Speaking to Autocar Professional today at the Auto Expo, Vivek Chaand Sehgal, chairman, SMG, said: “Motherson Innovations is staffed by experts from all product streams. It has begun work on mirrors and plastics and is working on multiple projects right now including a driver assistance system using camera technology. On the materials front, we are not only looking deeply into lightweighting but also finishing operations.”
Motherson Sumi Systems, which is located at Hall 12A, Stall No. 1, at Pragati Maidan, is displaying its global product range spanning wire harnesses and related components, moulded plastic components including IP, door trim and bumper modules, injection moulding tools, rubber components including bonded parts, automotive rearview mirrors, automotive air conditioning systems, vehicle electronics, cabins for off-highway vehicles, lighting solutions, air intake and pedal box modules, software, engineering and design development, sintered metal parts, aluminium die cast parts, cutting tools including gear cutting tools and thin film coatings as well as paint coating equipment and air compressors.
In technologies, SMG is displaying technology advancements across its various verticals with a focus on products and solutions that help weight and volume reduction and complexity management. The products demonstrate solutions beyond traditional electrical distribution systems and include use of alternate raw materials and processes.
Among the exhibits is SMG’s product basket of vehicle electronics and camera-based systems. Other new products are sintered metal parts, shock absorbers, high end surface finish aesthetic and engineering profiles and moulded parts made of thermoplastics and hybrid components made of metal and plastic and also aluminium die cast parts.
