MG signs pact for compact EV in India

MG Motor India recently participated in an online signing ceremony for SAIC-GM-Wuling-MG India’s new energy product (NEV) technology licence agreement in Liuzhou, China, Autocar India, our sister publication has learnt.

This event saw the presence of top bosses from both SAIC and Wuling, along with Rajeev Chaba, MG India’s president and MD. This agreement includes the right to use multiple technologies related to the Wuling Air EV, in terms of production, quality and after-sales service.

Based on the technology licensed, MG India will produce and sell the Wuling Air EV in India. The small electric car will be put into production in the Indian market in the first half of 2023, sources say. After Indonesia, India will most likely be the second market for the upcoming right-hand-drive small car and will be sold as an MG-branded vehicle here.

Expect more details on the upcoming MG compact EV in India to surface in the coming months in the run-up to its India debut, which is expected to take place at Auto Expo 2023 in January.
