MG India’s September sales up 17.5% to 3,808 units, chip issues impact production
Recently launched Advanced GLoster gets a good market response even as the ZS EV performs strongly.
MG Motor India has reported retail sales of 3,808 units in September 2022, registering a year-on-year growth of 17.5% (September 2021: 3,241). Cumulative sales for the first six months of FY2023 (April-September 2022) are 22,163 units, which marks 17% YoY growth (April-September 2021: 18,920 units).
The company, which launched the Advanced Gloster SUV exactly a month ago at Rs 31.99 lakh, says the model has “received an encouraging response.” Meanwhile, the all-new ZS EV has also performed well, and its “retail numbers are highest in this year so far” albeit specific numbers have not been released.
MG Motor India is among the automakers which continue to be impacted by supply chain constraints and the waiting period continues to be 3-6 months across some models. With the semiconductor availability issue persisting, MG is able to supply only the Astor MT model for the time being. The company though “is hopeful about commencing deliveries of the Astor automatic variants soon.”
Network expansion, customer outreach initiative
Meanwhile, MG Motor India is continuing its network expansion programme. On September 23, it inaugurated a new 3S facility in Kannur, Kerala, expanding its retail touchpoints in that state to 18 and its all-India network to 320 facilities.
Last month also saw the company introduce ‘MG Service on Wheels’, a customer-focused initiative that offers car repair and maintenance services from the comfort of their homes. ‘MG Service on Wheels’ operates as a mobile workshop equipped with all the necessary tools, spare parts, and other consumables and digital assets to support immediate and unforeseen yet urgent vehicle maintenance requirements. The program’s appointment booking system allows customers to easily connect with the company and schedule their car maintenance.
