MG Motor India, one of the two latest automotive entrants in the Indian market to have been witnessing a contrasting trend in an otherwise de-growing business environment, has now announced its retail performance for the month of October.

The company has revealed that sales of its sole product the MG Hector SUV stood at 3,536 units last month, a growth of 35.5 percent over last month, with the company still sitting on a thick stack of bookings, making the midsize SUV sold out till February 2020.

After a surge of bookings coming in soon after its launch and price announcement in June, the company had to temporarily put fresh bookings on hold in July, given the company's initial production capacity limitation at its plant in Halol, Gujarat.

However, with concerted efforts in its supply chain including its local and global component suppliers, MG Motor India went on to re-open the bookings on September 29.

According to the company, the total booking tally so far has reached 38,000 units, with 4,000 cancellations midway. It now aims to clear the entire backlog till February with the second-shift at its plant scheduled to commence by the end of this month.

“MG Hector continues to further strengthen its position in its segment and win the hearts of our customers. As we gradually ramp up our production, we aim to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction through timely vehicle deliveries," said Rakesh Sidana, director, Sales, MG Motor India.

The company, which inaugurated its first digital showroom in Bangalore yesterday, had retailed 2,608 units of the Hector in September and 2,018 units earlier in August this year.
