Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director, Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) has confirmed that the company has begun construction of its proposed 2,50,000 cars per annum capacity new plant at Kharkhoda, Haryana, and said that “it is very much on track for its 2025 commissioning.”
At this 3,200 acre site, including plots for downstream units, 800 acres has been alloted to MSIL to make passenger cars and electric vehicles and 100 acres to Suzuki Motorcycles.
Of the total 18,000 crore investment, MSIL proposes to spend more than Rs 7,000 crore during FY23 for the construction and commissioning of this plant which is located in the Industrial Model Township (IMT), 69 kilometres from Gurugram.

Speaking on the sidelines of the foundation stone laying for Tata Airbus C-295 transport aircraft in Gujarat's Vadodra, Takeuchi said that “Maruti & Suzuki now are at an advanced stage of expanding our production for batteries and EVs. The construction of our plant at Kharkhoda has already begun and is very much on track.”
The car plant at Kharkhoda is expected to start production by 2025 with 2,50,000 units per annum when fully operational. This will add to its Manesar and Gurugram manufacturing plants creating a combined capacity to produce two million cars per annum by 2028.
Sharing his views on the 22,000 crore Tata Airbus C295 transport aircraft Manufacturing Plant in Vadodara, Takeuchi commented that it is wise for any company to come to India as the country is a growing market.
“Two months back in August, in Gujarat, we marked 40 years of Suzuki Motor Corporation in India. We are giving a boost to the country's Make in India plan where we see a perfect fit of Japanese and Indian working culture,” Takeuchi said.
Sharing his future plans on the Gujrat operations he said MSIL has also expanded the Gujarat operations. The automaker is speeding up its EV production and battery manufacturing plans. He also reflected on how, over the last eight years, India-Japanese ties have grown stronger.
Recalling the efforts made by the late Japanese Prime Minister Late Shinzo Abe, the Maruti MD said that the bullet train between Gujarat and Maharashtra to the Rudraksha centre in Varanasi, is of significant interest to current Prime Minister Kishida and “Japan is strongly supporting it.”
