Maruti Suzuki’s Wagon R, launched in 2000, has crossed the milestone of 15 lakh cumulative sales. Commenting on the milestone, Manohar Bhat, vice-president (marketing) said, “The Wagon R has been amongst India’s top five best-selling brands. With its space, features and comfort, it has been the choice of the smart customer and consistently remained among India’s most loved car brands.”
The carmaker sold around 156,300 units in 2013-14 and in the current fiscal, Wagon R sales have already exceeded 93,000 units. The car sold 17,119 units in June 2014, its highest-ever monthly tally.
Strengthened by regular upgradations to meet buyer expectations and marketing initiatives, Maruti Suzuki expanded the Wagon R family by bringing the CNG variant in 2010-11. In Delhi and Mumbai, where CNG is available, this model accounts for over 50 percent of sales but it has largely been LPG sales that have dominated as far as the vehicle’s clean fuel variants go, as per SIAM data .
In 2013-14, the Wagon R Stingray was introduced. This version has distinctive head lamps as opposed to the regular model. Powered by the 998cc K-series engine, the Wagon R developed 68bhp and delivers a mileage of 20.5kpl in petrol, 26.6km/kg in CNG.
