Maruti Suzuki records its best-ever sales in FY2015-16

Maruti Suzuki India, the leading passenger vehicle player in the country, has sold 118,895 units in March 2016, up 14.6% year on year (March 2015: 103,719).

Maruti Suzuki India, the leading passenger vehicle player in the country, has sold 118,895 units in March 2016, up 14.6% year on year (March 2015: 103,719). 

With this, the company has ended 2015-16 with its highest-ever sales of 1,305,351 units, a growth of 11.5% YoY in the domestic market (2014-15: 1,170,702). On the export front too, the carmaker has notched its highest number yet: 123,897 units, up 1.8% (2014-15: 121,173).

Yet another high is that, for the fourth year in a row, the top four best-selling models in in the country are from Maruti cars: the Alto, Dzire, Swift and the Wagon R. New models like the Baleno, Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross have helped drive sales in the recent past.

Cumulative FY2015-16 sales across passenger vehicle segments reveal that Maruti Suzuki sees all its sub-segments make YoY gains. While the Alto and Wagon R duo sold a total of 432,977 units, up 1.7% (FY2014-15: 425,742), the Swift-Ritz-Dzire-Celerio-Baleno quintent sold 541,951 units over 12 months, up 9.3% YoY (FY2014-15: 495,999). Growing demand for the Dzire Tour taxi has seen sales double to 38,303 units, up 105.5% (FY2014-15: 18,639) while the premium Ciaz sedan has clocked 63.6% YoY growth, going home to 54,233 new buyers (FY2014-15: 33,151).

The utility vehicle group (Gypsy, S-Cross, Ertiga and Vitara Brezza) with sales of 94,416 units has posted 38.4% growth (FY2014-15: 68,198) and the vans (Omni and Eeco) did well to sell a total of 143,471 units, up 11.2% YoY (FY2014-15: 128,973).

Export performance

Maruti Suzuki India has also done reasonably well on the export front, thanks to the recent surge from shipments of the Baleno to global markets. The company exported 123,897 cars, recording marginal growth of 1.8% YoY (FY2014-15: 121,173).
