Maruti Suzuki India has issued a recall for 181,754 units of some petrol variants of the Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and XL6 models to inspect for a possible defect in the motor generator unit. The vehicles impacted under the recall have been manufactured between May 4, 2018 and October 27, 2020.

Maruti Suzuki authorised workshops will be contacting the owners of the recalled vehicles to replace the affected part, which will happen from the first week of November 2021. Till then, the company says customers have to avoid driving in water-logged areas or direct water spray on electrical / electronic parts in vehicle.

Customers of the impacted vehicles can also log in to the ‘Imp Customer Info’ section on www.marutisuzuki.com (for Ertiga and Vitara Brezza) or www.nexaexperience.com (for Ciaz, XL6 and S-Cross) and fill in their vehicle’s chassis number (MA3, followed by 14-digit alpha-numeric number) to check if their vehicle needs any attention. The chassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also mentioned in the vehicle invoice/registration documents.

This is one of the largest recalls by Maruti Suzuki. In July 2020, the company had  recalled 134,885 Wagon Rs and Balenos to check for a possible issue with the fuel pump. A few months later, it recalled 40,453 Eeco vans to inspect the headlamp
