Maruti Suzuki looks to rev up Ciaz sales with new sporty variant

Premium midsized sedan gets a sporty exterior and enhanced interiors; 11th BS VI product from the carmaker.

Maruti Suzuki India has launched the Ciaz S, the sports variant of premium midsize sedan. Based on the top Alpha variant, the Ciaz S comes with a sporty exterior and enhanced interiors. The Ciaz Swill be offered in three colours– Sangria Red, Premium Silver and Pearl Snow White and is the 11th BS VI product from the carmaker’s stable.  

Speaking on the new offering, Shashank Srivastava, executive director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India said, “The Ciaz since its launch in 2014, has been the most popular midsize sedan and has witnessed consistent growth. With over 270,000 happy customers and record 29 percent market share in its segment, the Ciaz is popular for its impactful exteriors, sophisticated interiors and strong performance. There was a latent need from our sedan-loving customers for a sporty version of the Ciaz. The Ciaz S fulfils that need and it adds a sporty quotient to the premium midsized sedan and appeal to the customers desiring ‘the good life’. We are confident the Ciaz S will be appreciated by customers.”

The Ciaz S comes with signature dual-tone sporty exteriors and intense black accentuations on side and rear under body spoilers, trunk lid spoiler, ORVM cover and front fog lamp garnish. The dual- tone theme is accentuated by multi-spoke, 16-inch alloy wheels in coordinated dark finish.

The Ciaz S has a black-garnished interior along with silver accents on the door trim and instrument panel aimed at enhancing the sports quotient of the premium midsize sedan.

Ciaz sales in April-December 2019
Maruti Suzuki India is keen to bring the fizz to sales of its premium sedan. In December 2019, sales were down to 1,786 units, down 62% over December 2018’s 4,734 units. In the April-December 2019 period, cumulative sales of 20,016 units are down 45% over year-ago sales of 36,479 units. Will the Ciaz S bring a sporty mood to the sedan sales ? Watch this space.
