Maruti Suzuki launches new S-Presso, banks on higher fuel efficiency for sales

Carmaker claims the K-Series 1.0-litre dual-jet, dual-VVT petrol engine with stop-start tech delivers 17% higher fuel efficiency in the auto variant and 14% higher fuel-efficiency with the manual transmission

Having sold over 200,000 S-Presso cars since the vehicle’s launch on September 30, 2019, Maruti Suzuki today launched the new S-Presso, priced at Rs 425,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the standard model equipped with a manual transmission and going upwards to Rs 599,000 for the top-end VXI+ (o) AGS with auto transmission.

The new S-Presso, which is powered by the K-Series 1.0-litre Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine with idle-start-stop technology, develops 49kW at 5500rpm of power and 89Nm torque at 3500rpm.

Maruti Suzuki claims the new S-Presso offers enhanced fuel-efficiency of 25.30kpl in Vxi(O)/Vxi+(O) AGS, 24.76kpl in Vxi/Vxi+ MT and 24.12kpl in Std/Lxi MT. The new S-Presso now has ESP with Hill Hold Assist across all AGS variants and electrically adjustable ORVMs (Outside Rear-View Mirror) in the Vxi+/Vxi+(O) variants.

Introducing the new S-Presso,  Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India said, “S-Presso with its bold SUVish design has carved a strong niche for itself. Within a short span of around three years, we have sold over 202,500 units of S-Presso. The new S-Presso with refined 1.0 K-series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine with Idle Start-Strop technology, enhanced fuel-efficiency and added features will offer an engaging drive experience to customers. We are confident that our customers will much appreciate the new S-Presso.”

It may be recollected that the made-in-India S-Presso scored a three-star rating in the Global NCAP test conducted in June 2022, improving on the 2020’s zero-star rating. The new S-Presso comes with  two airbags, ABS with EBD, Pre-tensioner and force limiter, Front seatbelts with Front seatbelt reminder, high-speed alert system, reverse parking sensors standard in all variants and Electronic Stability program (ESP) with Hill Hold Assist in AGS variants
