Maruti Suzuki launches new 1.5L diesel engine in Ciaz, claims 26.82kpl fuel efficiency

Maruti Suzuki India, which is continuing to bet on diesel car demand in the Indian market, has launched its all-new, in-house-developed 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine in its premium Ciaz sedan. The company had earlier introduced a 1.5-litre K15 petrol engine in the new Ciaz and new Ertiga MPV.

According to the carmaker, the new 1.5-litre engine offers improved performance, best-in-class fuel efficiency of 26.82 kilometres per litre, enhanced torque and power with refined NVH performance. The engine develops maximum power of 95hp at 4000rpm and torque of 225Nm at 1500-2500rpm.

The 1.5L DDiS 225 diesel engine comes with a high efficiency turbocharger, which generates higher low-end torque through optimisation, while the use of a dual mass flywheel along with optimised compression ratio reduces engine fluctuations and contributes to superior NVH performance. A newly designed six-speed transmission, mated to the DDiS 225 engine completes the powertrain package.

Commenting on the new engine, Kenichi Ayukawa, managing director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, said: “The all-new aluminium 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine offers an optimum balance of enhanced performance with best-in-class fuel efficiency. We are confident that introduction of this new engine will further strengthen our portfolio and help in popularity of our cars.”

With the addition of this new engine, the new Ciaz will now be available with 1.5-litre engines in both petrol (K15 with Next-Gen Smart Hybrid) and diesel (DDiS 225) powertrain options.

Pricing for the new Ciaz, powered by the 1.5L diesel engine and new 6-speed manual transmission, starts from Rs 997,000 for the Delta variant, Rs 11.08 lakh for the Zeta variant and Rs 11.37 lakh for the Alpha variant.
