Maruti Suzuki India sells over 600,000 automatic cars

Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker has achieved a new milestone by selling over 600,000 auto transmission technology-equipped passenger vehicles. The company says of the 600,000 vehicles around 500,000 vehicles are equipped with its Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology.

The carmaker says the demand for Maruti Suzuki automatic vehicles has accelerated in the past 5 years after it introduced its popular AGS transmission technology in Celerio in 2014. In FY2018-19 alone, the company had sold over 200,000 units of automatic vehicles.

At present Maruti Suzuki offers automatic options in 12 models and a choice of three different transmissions – Auto Gear Shift (AGS), Automatic Transmission (AT) and Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT).

The AGS is available in Alto K-10, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Dzire and Vitara Brezza. The AT transmission is offered in Ertiga, Ciaz and XL6, while Baleno comes equipped with CVT technology.

Maruti Suzuki says the demand for its automatic transmission vehicles are popular across the country, particularly in markets like Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune and Chennai.
