Maruti’s February production was up by just over 1500 cars to 169,692 units as against 168,180 units in February, 2021. The company said the shortage of chips had a minor impact on production in the month.
Production of the passenger segment fell by a tad with the Ciaz alone seeing a production of just over 3,000 units as against 1943 units in the same period, last year. Production of the Super Carry rose 67 percent to 4,020 units as against 2397 cars in February, 2021.
In an interview to Autocar Professional at the launch of the Baleno, MD Kenichi Ayukawa said shortage varies with the type of chips, and that his company is make the most of a challenging situation by focusing on increasing exports as it is able to source more volumes for the kind of chips that export models.
On Maruti’s FY2023 outlook, the MD reiterated Maruti's supply side concerns with most OEMs continuing to face difficulties with components but said that despite some improvement in CY2021, reaching 100 percent recovery is difficult. Any easing of supply constraints would be an opportunity for the total market volume to improve as compared to the past two years, he said.
