Maruti Celerio drives past 300,000 sales, refreshed version launched

The Celerio has crossed the 300,000 domestic sales mark in August 2017, 43 months since launch. Of the 310,314 units sold, 298,553 have been petrol and 11,761 diesel.

The Maruti Celerio hatchback, launched in February 2014, has crossed the 300,000 units domestic sales landmark. At the end of August 2017, the car had sold a total of 310,314 units, 298,553 comprised petrol-engined variants and 11,761 diesel. Pricing for the new Celerio starts at Rs 415,273 and goes up to Rs 525,577 (ex-showroom Delhi). Detailed price chart across the 10 petrol and 2 CNG variants is given at the bottom of this news story.  

A consistent ranker among the Top 10 best-selling cars in India, the Celerio has been the go-to hatchback for those wanting a hatchback that’s bigger and comfier than the Alto, but not as expensive as the Swift. Since its launch in 2014, the hatchback has been offered with numerous special editions.

Maruti has also debuted some of its key technologies in the Celerio, most notably its AGS AMT and Suzuki’s in-house developed diesel engine – the DDiS125. While the two-cylinder diesel- engined Celerio never made headlines on the sales charts, the Celerio AMTs paved the way for affordable automatics in India.

Earlier today, Maruti Suzuki launched a refreshed Celerio with a new front grille design, rear door garnish, revised seat fabric design and a host of safety features. Commenting on the launch, R S Kalsi, senior executive director, marketing and sales, said, “Brand Celerio has clocked sales of over 300,000 units. The new Celerio, which will delight customers with its looks, is also loaded with advanced safety features and meets pedestrian, offset and side impact regulation norms.”

What’s inside?
The new Celerio gets a new high-contrast interior with black and fresher greige that offers a premium look to the cabin. The greige seat trims are complemented with a new abstract pattern giving it a modern touch. Silver accents, fresh seats and door trim fabric design further enhance the premium-ness in the cabin.

On the safety front, the hatchback meets pedestrian, offset and side impact regulations, making the Celerio the seventh model from the  Maruti Suzuki stable that meets new car safety norms ahead of the  timelines. It also comes with standard driver-side airbag and driver side seat-belt reminder. Passenger airbags and ABS are available as an optional variant across all trims.  

As per Maruti, nearly 36 percent of customers opted for AGS variant in April-September 2017, and the top-end Z variant contributed 48 percent to the overall Celerio sales in the first half of 2017-18.
