Maruti Celerio: 0-100,000 in 16 months
Maruti Suzuki India has announced that its Celerio hatchback has driven past the 100,000 unit sales landmark in the domestic market.
Maruti Suzuki India has announced that its Celerio hatchback has driven past the 100,000 unit sales landmark in the domestic market. The Celerio, which ranks among the top 10 selling cars in India, is the only car to be available in petrol, CNG and diesel fuel options and offers two transmission options (manual and automatic).
Launched in February 2014 at the Delhi Auto Expo 2014, the Celerio was the first car to introduce Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) in India, a technology which has since become popular and also adopted by other carmakers.
The Celerio is one of the most fuel-efficient cars in India with an ARAI-rated figure of 27.63kpl (VDi) and employs the smallest automotive diesel engine in the world. The
793cc, two-cylinder, all-aluminium Suzuki DDiS is also the first-ever designed by the Japanese automaker. The diesel Celerio was launched in June 2015.
In May 2015, the Celerio saw a 16 percent jump in sales from the previous month, and a 14 percent rise overall from May 2014. The car has helped Maruti increased its market share in the entry-level hatchback segment by 10 percent within a year of launch.
Commenting on the big sales number, RS Kalsi, executive director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “The Celerio is the first car in India to introduce the Auto Gear Shift technology and almost one-third of its sales are of the Auto Gear Shift variants. Customers appreciated the convenience of automatic gear shifting with no loss in fuel efficiency on the Celerio and within a year of its launch Maruti Suzuki’s share in the lower hatchback segment has shot up to 71% from 61%.”
