Mahindra looks to farm growth with all-new Yuvo tractor, both in India and abroad

Mahindra & Mahindra, the largest farm equipment manufacturer in India, today unveiled its latest tractor platform named Yuvo in Hyderabad. The new tractor platform has been developed at the company’s R&D factory, Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai at an investment of Rs 300 crore.

The company also showcased five new tractor variants in the 30-45 hp range based on the Yuvo platform. Priced between Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 6.49 lakh, the new range will be available across the country in a week's time.

According to M&M, the Yuvo has been designed and developed utilising feedback from farmers across 12 states in the country. This has resulted in the tractor being capable of handling 30 farm applications throughout the agricultural cycle, right from seed-bed preparation to post harvesting.

Speaking at the launch Dr Pawan Goenka, executive director, M&M said, “The Yuvo will cater to the evolving needs of the progressive farmer. The new range of Yuvo tractors are likely to help Mahindra gain around 2% market share. Further, M&M is also developing below 30 hp tractors for the Indian market. The Yuvo demonstrates the commitment of Mahindra to enable farmers to improve their yield and productivity.”

Rajesh Jejurikar, president and chief executive – Farm Equipment & Two Wheeler Division, M&M said, “Yuvo is designed based on customer insights from varied farming applications across the country. A very extensive testing and validation process has been followed. The launch in the very major 30 to 45 hp segment will further strengthen our position in the tractor market.”

The company says it has tested the Yuvo tractor range at 80 locations for over 140,000 hours. The Yuvo platform comes with many first-in-class features, including 15-speed gears, a constant mesh design and the highest lift capacity in the 1,500kg segment. M&M also claims a best-in- class service interval of 400 hours.

According to M&M, the 30-45hp segment constitutes nearly 70 percent of the Indian tractor market and with the Yuvo it is likely to see a marginal increase in its overall market share of 41 percent in the Indian tractor industry.

The Yuvo range is slotted above the existing 30-45 hp tractor range. While there is no plan to phase out the previous-generation tractors at the moment, the company plans to export the Yuvo to its existing markets abroad, with plans to introduce the new range in the US market as well.
