Mahindra & Mahindra today participated in the FAME India Eco Drive 2015, on the occasion of World Environment Day, with its fleet of electric vehicles.
A public awareness initiative to promote the use of hybrid and electric vehicles, the FAME India Eco Drive was organised by the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, government of India in association with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), SMEV and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).
Anant Geete, minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, government of India, flagged off the event in the presence of Prakash Javadekar, minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, government of India from India Gate in New Delhi this morning.
Speaking on this initiative, Pravin Shah, president & chief executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “At Mahindra, we are delighted to be part of the first ever mega green rally and the largest ever gathering of electric vehicles in the country. We are thankful to the government of India for championing the cause of sustainable and emission-free mobility solutions for the future. Given the current era of rising concern about global warming and higher fossil fuel costs, this is indeed a drive for a greener and better tomorrow. Further, with the recently announced FAME scheme, the government has already set in motion a conducive environment for the ownership and adoption of electric vehicles in the country. We at Mahindra are committed to the future of mobility.”
From the Mahindra stable, a fleet of 10 Mahindra e2os, 4 electric Veritos and one electric Maxximo participated in the country’s first ever mega green-vehicle rally, covering a distance of 21 kilometres from India Gate to IGI Airport Terminal 3.
