Mahindra enters row crop and horticulture farming sector with compact Jivo

Mahindra & Mahindra’s Jivo, with its compact design, high power and 4WD, is targeted at the growing horticulture and row crop farming segment in India.

Mahindra & Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector (FES) yesterday announced the launch of the Mahindra Jivo new small tractor platform in the sub-25hp category, targeted at row crop and horticulture farming.

The stylish Jivo 245 4WD tractor gets wraparound headlamps, silver add-ons, attractive decals and sculpted bonnet. It will be available in two-tone red-and-silver sheet metal and equipped with Mahindra’s DiGiSense technology which will enable farmers to get updates on their tractor’s performance as well alerts on a real-time basis.

The tractor is available in the 4WD version with 24hp and PTO power of 22hp. It will be sold in Maharashtra and Gujarat from April 25 at a starting price of Rs 390,000 for the 4WD model and going up to Rs 405,000 for the dual tone variant (ex-showroom Maharashtra). It will later be made available in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.

The company says the Jivo has been designed specifically for the specialised farming segment and is an ideal choice for the row crop and horticulture farmers due to its narrow, compact build and high power.

Developed ground-up, the Mahindra Jivo is billed to be a highly versatile tractor that can be used across multiple applications including crop care, land preparation and inter-culture activities. The company's first sub-25hp, 4WD tractor, it is a high-performance model that leads the segment with best-in-class torque and fuel efficiency. Further, its highest PTO horsepower and narrow turning radius make it ideal for spraying in vineyard applications.

Speaking at the Mahindra Jivo launch in Mumbai, Dr Pawan Goenka, managing director, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, "With innovation and technology as its bedrock, Mahindra is today working on redefining the face of farming in the future. We have embarked on various initiatives towards this end and our recently launched Farming 3.0 platform will help in taking farm mechanisation to the next level. The launch of the Jivo platform today is another significant step in that direction".

According to the company, the tractor is specially designed for operator comfort. Its small steering wheel, easy to operate pedals, gear shift lever located on fenders and suspension seat make the Jivo extremely comfortable to operate over long hours.

Going forward, a 20hp 2WD product is planned on the Jivo platform and will be launched around September 2017.
