Mahindra Electric, the electric vehicle manufacturing arm of the Mahindra Group, today announced the completion of 50 million kilometres on Indian roads.

The company says the e2o and e2oPlus electric cars together over the years have contributed to a saving of 2,500,000kg of carbon dioxide emission into the environment, which is the equivalent of planting to 250,000 trees.

While personal ownership of the e20 Plus is still on the lower side, the company is seeing sales growth from shared mobility providers and other sources. In May this year, Nagpur city launched a pilot project for 200 EVs including 100 of e20 Plus cars.

Commenting on this milestone, Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric, said: “Crossing the 50 million electric kilometres milestone comes at a time when the government has significantly increased its thrust on electric vehicles and accelerated the process of large scale adoption of EVs through its Electric Mobility Mission 2030.  This is a proud moment for us and reaffirms our role in India’s electric mobility revolution.”

The e2oPlus comes equipped with smart technology and telematics, which allow it to remain connected with the customer as well as Mahindra Electric. Telematics help company engineers to remotely diagnose and fix any issues that may come up in the vehicle. It also helps collect big data to help fine tune and improve the technology that is at the core of these vehicles.

The Mahindra Group has one of the most diversified portfolio of EVs with the e2oPlus hatchback, the eVerito sedan, the eSupro minivan and panel vans and its recently launched electric rickshaw, the e-Alfa Mini.
