Lucas India Services readies for BS VI era, opens new workshop in Mumbai

Located at the upmarket Prabhadevi location in the island city, it will cater to OEMs and fleet operators.

Automotive aftermarket solutions provider Lucas Indian Service (LIS)  is readying for BS VI emission norms standard that kick in from April 2020. LIS, which is one of the largest orgnised players in the aftermarket in India, today inaugurated its upgraded Company Owned Company Operated (CoCo) workshop in Mumbai.

Located at the upmarket Prabhadevi location in the island city, it will cater to OEMs and fleet operators. The workshop is equipped with modern equipment including a Hartridge AVM-2PC Common Rail Test Bench to diagnose and repair common-rail fuel pumps and injectors and upgraded alternator regulator tester. The services include starting systems, charging systems, car diagnostics, rotary fuel injection service and calibration, common-rail fuel injection system diagnostics, common rail system repair and coding of injectors.

The workshop opening was attended by major OEM customers, suppliers, fleet operators and dealers. Experts explained the various aspects around service and repair operations, and the future preparedness for BS VI. 

The workshop can also conduct hands-on training programmes for employees and customers to experience products, equipment and functionalities.

Speaking on the opening of the new CoCo workshop, S Muralidharan, president, Lucas Indian Service, said: “Workshop BS VI readiness to cater to a city with a high vehicle parc and at the same time ensure quick turnaround time for BS IV is the need of the hour. In cities like Mumbai, commercial movement never stops due to vehicle breakdowns. LIS has 21 company owned and operated workshops across the country and we are in the process of upgrading the facilities across all these workshops for BS VI readiness. LIS has always believed in customer service as part of its mission statement and the COCO workshop will facilitate quick turnaround time, thereby enhancing customer experience.”  

Rajeeva Ranjan, Head – Technical Support, Tata Motors, who inaugurated the workshop, lauded Lucas Indian Service for its service response and said the company is one of the top service providers of Tata Motors.

LIS, whose product portfolio comprises auto electrical, diesel fuel injection equipment, batteries, lubricating oils and filters, has four regional offices, three central warehouses and 29 stock points. It operates 20 company-owned workshops, a dedicated network of over 150 distributors, 2,000 dealers, more than 550 service dealers, 15,000 retailers and 30,000 registered auto electricians and mechanics in 1,360 towns and cities across India. The passenger vehicle and heavy commercial vehicle segments are significant contributors to LIS’ top line and the company is eyeing greater opportunities in the two-wheeler segment.
