India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), the premier trade promotion agency of the government of India, has announced its third Auto Ancillary Show 2014. The four-day show (October 10-13) will be held at the Auto Cluster Exhibition Complex, Pune.

This year, the show is being jointly organised with ACMA, the apex body of the auto component industry in India, and Auto Cluster Development and Research Institute (ACDRI), Pune. Autocar Professional is the media partner for the event.

The show will focus on the theme ‘Lightweighting’ with the aim to sensitise the auto industry about the importance of polymers, composites and other advanced materials in reducing the weight of automobile thereby enhancing fuel efficiency. The show will also have various seminars to be addressed by eminent industry experts on subjects of topical interest such as auto component design and the role of polymer composites, innovative thermoplastic materials and applications for automotive safety & sustainability, economical way of lightweighting technologies for auto ancillaries for enhanced efficiency, among other things (see detailed list below).

Spread across 2,000 square metres, the show will have around 70 exhibitors showcasing a range of products including gears, gearbox assemblies, pinions, transmission and propeller shafts, automatic transmission parts, housings and castings, crankshafts, cylinder heads, camshafts, sheet metal assembly, cold formed/CNC machined parts, stampings, wire forms, timing and motorcycle chains, fine blanking, machined components, suspension / anti vibration components, dashboard instruments, displays, sensors, cables, switches, auto lamps, infrared heaters and heat controllers, control cables and  commercial vehicle components.

The show will also serve as a platform for the automotive industry to network, seek technology tie-ups, explore joint ventures and interact with government institutions to help them in their quest for expansion and technological upgradation.

Announcing the show, Malay Shrivastava, IAS, executive director, ITPO, remarked “The Auto Ancillary series have been conceptualized to facilitate interaction between the Auto Component Industry and the OEMs.  The show is a priority for ITPO and the co-organizers that have taken upon themselves the responsibility to fulfil the needs of the automobile industry in India.  We all are confident of fulfilling the roles.”

Commenting on the theme of the show, Vinnie Mehta, director general, ACMA, said, “The Indian composite industry is pegged at Rs 15,000 crore and is expected to grow at 15 percent per annum over the next four years. Given its array of applications, polymers and composites are increasingly being explored for newer applications to make vehicles lighter and fuel efficient. Today, lightweighting materials have become an integral and a critical part of the automotive design. To improve fuel efficiency and reducing vehicular emissions it has become necessary for the auto industry to adopt such technologies. With this thought in mind we have joined hands with ITPO to harness the Auto Ancillary Show as a platform, to introduce the industry to various new materials, processes and ideas for promoting the use of light weighting materials.’

Rajeev Dashputre, managing director, ACDRI, stated that the “Auto Cluster Development & Research Institute has been servicing the auto component Industry for the past decade. ACDRI is committed to fully support the Auto Ancillary Show by contributing its knowledge and experience this domain. We will also ensure a good turnout of the relevant representatives from the automobile industry in this show.”

The auto component industry clocked a turnover of Rs 211,765 crore for the period April 2013 to March 2014, recording a CAGR of 14 percent over the last six years. The industry is expected to grow up to US$ 115 billion by 2020. Exports of auto components grew by 16.7 percent to Rs 61,487 crore (US$ 10.2 billion) from Rs 52,690 crore (US$ 9.7 billion) in 2012-13.  Europe accounted for 38 percent of exports followed by Asia at 25 percent and North America at 21 percent.
