Land Rover has launched the refreshed Discovery Sport in India, with prices starting at Rs 57.06 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). Land Rover’s heavily-updated entry-level model gets two BS VI-compliant engine options and is available in two trim levels – S and R-Dynamic SE.

The Discovery Sport S diesel variant cost Rs 57.06 lakh, while the R-Dynamic SE is priced at Rs 60.89 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom, pan-India).

The Discovery not only gets refreshed styling, it also gets a new platform. It is now underpinned by the second-gen Evoque's Premium Transverse Architecture that has been engineered to accommodate electrified powertrains as well. Dimension-wise, the new Discovery Sport measures 4,600mm in length, 2,069mm in width, 1,724mm in height, and has a 2,741mm-long wheelbase.

The revised exterior design now brings the Discovery Sport more in line with newer Land Rover models like the Velar and Evoque. It gets new front and rear bumpers, a tweaked front grille, and restyled headlights and tail-lamps. The cabin, too, has been spruced up with a larger touchscreen, new AC controls and touch pads for the steering-mounted controls.

The facelifted Discovery Sport makes use of BS VI-compliant, 2.0-litre petrol and diesel mills from JLR's Ingenium family of engines. The P250 petrol comes with a 48V mild-hybrid system and puts out 245hp and 365Nm of torque, while the D180 diesel churns out 177hp and 430Nm of torque. A 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system are standard across the range. Deliveries of the diesel versions will commence first, with the petrol variants set to follow soon.

In terms of features, the top-spec R-Dynamic SE gets a full-digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a Meridian audio system, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, LED headlights, heated door mirrors, a powered tailgate and a parking camera. Standard safety kit includes six airbags, ABS, ESC, emergency brake assist, roll stability control, and front and rear parking sensors.

Rohit Suri, president and MD, Jaguar Land Rover India (JLRIL) said: "The New Discovery Sport is a bold evolution of the original design, incorporating the latest in technological advancements. Fuelling the spirit of adventure, the vehicle consists of improved features that not only enhance the capability of the vehicle but also elevate the complete driving experience. It further strengthens the distinctive design and versatility that has made the Discovery Sport one of the leading models in the Land Rover portfolio.”

As before, the Discovery Sport will continue to offer a 5+2 seater configuration on both variants. The third row of seats is what sets it apart from rivals like the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60, all of which are 5-seaters only.
