KPIT, a global technology company specialising in product engineering and IT consulting, has announced the start of the second edition of KPIT Sparkle 2016, an annual national design and development innovation contest, in association with the College of Engineering, Pune.

With an aim to foster a culture of innovation and critical thinking, KPIT invites engineering and science students across Indian colleges to come up with groundbreaking solutions on the theme of ‘Smart Solutions for Energy and Transportation’ and win prizes worth Rs 21.5 lakh.

KPIT Sparkle 2016 does not give students a problem statement to solve, but allows them to choose the problem from within the scope of the theme and create their own solutions. The solutions should not only be innovative from a technology point of view but also be cleaner, safer, greener, and affordable for the end consumer.

Commenting on the contest, Ravi Pandit, co-founder, chairman and Group CEO, KPIT, said, “There is a huge opportunity for innovation as world seeks answers to achieve sustainability in the growing industrial and urbanised ecosystem. Through this competition, we aim to inspire bright young minds to recognise and solve critical problems in this area with impactful and commercially viable solutions in energy and transportation.”

Dr Anil Sahasrabudhe, director, College of Engineering, Pune, said, “It is a pleasure to collaborate with KPIT for Sparkle 2016. This innovation competition will once again provide a platform to science and engineering students to perceive energy and transportation problems in a fresh light and come up with powerful solutions. We look forward to how the participants will apply their theoretical knowledge into practical working projects.”

The last date of registration for the prequalification round is 20th of September, 2015. For application details and more information, visit: http://www.kpit.com/sparkle

In the final round, shortlisted participants will present solutions through posters and working prototypes at a grand exhibition in Pune in the beginning of 2016.

In the previous edition, KPIT’s Sparkle competition received more than 400 ideas ranging from unconventional power generation and hybrid solutions to intelligent transport systems and driver safety.
