Introduced in India in 2017, the Jeep Compass midsized SUV has received a mid-life makeover a little over three years into its product lifecycle. The refreshed SUV which now offers a host of connected features alongside a completely new interior and slight tweaks on the outside, has been launched with prices starting Rs 17 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.

The new Jeep Compass will be offered in five trims and the respective ex-showroom pricing applicable for Mumbai and Delhi is as follows:
Sport trim – Rs 1,699,000
Longitude (O) trim – Rs 2,049,000
Limited (O) trim – 2,249,000
Model S trim – 2,449,000
80th Anniversary Edition – Rs 2,296,000

While the Sport trim will only be offered with the 1.4-litre multi-air turbocharged petrol and MT gearbox, the Longitude (O) will give options of either the 2.0-litre diesel with 6MT or 1.4-litre petrol with 7-speed DDCT.

The Limited (O) trim will get an additional diesel-9AT combination in 4x4 over and above the drivetrain choices for the Longitude (O) variant. The Model S trim will offer all three engine-gearbox options.

Jeep says that customer-centricity is of topmost priority for the company and as a result, it is paying strong attention towards training of its workshop technicians. Over 453 technicians undergo up to 2,400 manhours of training as per the company and even during the lockdown, its people were able to undergo 1,800 hours of remote training.

According to Dr Partha Datta, president and managing director, FCA India, “India is the second market in the world with the new Compass being revealed globally. We have used all lessons in our journey so far to make quantum leaps and make the product more modern, connected and sophisticated, while retaining the Jeep DNA.”

It now has plans to introduce the made-in-India Compass in Australia, New Zealand and Japan ‘soon’.

Thoroughly updated
The refreshed SUV gets an all-new popped-out 10.1-inch HD touchscreen infotainment display with Jeep’s proprietary Uconnect-5 interface. The touchscreen is aided by another brand-new 10.25-inch fully-digital instrument cluster and there is a redesigned steering wheel with new horizontally-sitting Jeep logo.

There’s an all-new dashboard design with its metal-accented mid bolster that runs across the dashboard and houses slender air vents, which are neatly tucked under the brow of the dashboard. The centre console has also been updated to offer more storage spaces.

On the outside, the 2021 Jeep Compass continues to sport the Jeep brand styling elements including the seven-slot grille and trapezoidal wheel arches. However, it now gets a pair of new projector LED headlamps as well as tail lamps, and a new set of diamond-cut alloy wheels.

It comes powered by an updated BS VI-compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine that develops 173bhp and a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine belting out 163bhp of power.

The car is assembled from high-tensile strength steel by deploying laser welding and it offers Jeep’s SelecTerrain 4x4 system that now gets a switchable toggle inside the cabin to offer more digital feel to customers. The SUV gets active safety systems such as ESC, panic brake assist, rollover mitigation, hill-start assist and hill-decent controls among others. While it retains the electronic parking brake that was introduced in 2017, Jeep has equipped the refreshed Compass with a 360-degree around-view camera module as well.

Deliveries of the new Jeep Compass will commence from February 2, all across the country.
