USUI Susira International, a global manufacturer of engine components for automobile and non-automobile applications held ground breaking ceremony for its new facility at Origins by Mahindra World City, Chennai.

USUI Susira becomes the third Japanese client signed by Origins, a joint venture between Mahindra World City Developers and Sumitomo Corporation of Japan. 

USUI Susira is a leading supplier of valve-train components, transmission parts and non-engine components for OEMs in India and globally. The company is establishing a 5-acre manufacturing facility for automobile parts at Origins, Chennai in the first phase; followed by a second phase of an additional five acres.  The new 10-acre facility will be the company's largest facility in India and will employ 500 persons, when it is fully operational by 2024. At present, the supplier has its main factory in Ambathur, Chennai and five operational units at Kakkalur in Tamil Nadu.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the facility was held in the presence of Akiko Usui, vice-chairman, USUI; Hiroshi Yamanashi, president, USUI and Hideto Mano, MD, USUI Susira International.

Commenting on the ceremony Hideto Mano said: “We selected Origins, Chennai for its high-quality infrastructure, proximity to ports and the availability of amenities. This new facility, once completed, will help us significantly scale up our production in India.  Our partnership with Origins, Chennai will help us realise our vision of Make in India.”

Vaibhav Mittal, business head, Mahindra World City, Chennai and Origins, Chennai said, “We are delighted to welcome USUI Susira International to Origins, Chennai.  With the ground-breaking ceremony held within just a week of signing the agreement, Origins, Chennai has firmly established itself as a holistic industrial ecosystem for accelerated business growth in India via world-class infrastructure and focused operations support.”

Origins, Chennai also counts Yanmar Group, an over 100-year-old Japanese business conglomerate and manufacturer of diesel engines; and Nissei Electric, a leading Japanese manufacturer and trader of optical fibre products and electrical components among its clienteles. Both companies have established their first manufacturing facility there.

Origins, Chennai is an industrial cluster, which once fully complete will span across 600 acres. It is located on the NH-16 corridor in Tamil Nadu, which connects Chennai with Kolkata and is a part of the Chennai-Bangalore industrial corridor. The project is expected to generate direct employment for 7,000 persons when fully operational.
