Jalaj Gupta, Head – CV Business Unit, Mahindra & Mahindra has a 3-point Budget Wishlist.

Firstly, the budget should give a clear roadmap on fuel usage for the industry. This will help us a lot in our strategic planning because as of today, we have 7-8 fuel sources which besides diesel also includes CNG, LNG, hydrogen, ethanol and others, on which work is happening in parallel or is being spoken about. One cannot expect the OEM to work in parallel on so many fuel types. So clarity on this front will help every OEM.

My second point pertains to the vehicle scrappage policy which was announced a year ago. The government needs to give this policy more teeth if it is to be really effective. The scrappage policy today is voluntary in nature but we are looking at it to give a big stimulus for demand in the transportation sector, and for our product portfolio, when it comes to the commercial vehicle industry.

Third on my wish list is the GST reclassification for the auto sector, and which has been discussed a lot in the public domain.
