'Indian suppliers should reinvest in manufacturing', says Suzuki's CEO

Indian suppliers should reinvest their profits in their second and third plants and enrich their manufacturing. In addition to 'Make in India', auto component suppliers should also focus on quality and cost said Osamu Suzuki, chairman and CEO of Suzuki Motor Corp, at the Make in India: how the auto components industry can make it happen session. Anant Geete, union minister for heavy industries and public enterprises, reiterated this thought saying that the right approach and right programme was necessary on the part of the component suppliers to enable the Make in India vision a success and envisioned the sector becoming numero uno globally, going forward.

"The performance of the OEM depends on the performance of the suppliers with 75 to 80 percent parts coming from the suppliers for the vehicle," said the new SIAM president and MD of Ashok Leyland, Vinod Dasari. Going forward, emission and safety norms, the upcoming Bus Body code, electronics and diagnostic equipment would play an important role.
