India Yamaha Motor has revealed prices for its BS VI-compliant FZ 25 and its newly-introduced FZS 25. The FZ 25 is priced at Rs 152,100, which makes it around Rs 15,000 dearer than the outgoing BS-IV variant, while the new FZS 25, costs Rs 5,000 more than the BS-VI FZ 25 at Rs 157,100.

These bikes were first unveiled in February of this year and were set to go on sale in April, but the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a delay. Peak output figures for the updated fuel-injected, BS VI engine were revealed earlier – 20.8hp at 8,000rpm and 20.1Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. For reference, the BS IV bike made nearly identical figures – 20.9hp/20Nm produced at identical points in the rev range. The FZ 25’s kerb weight is 1kg more than the outgoing model, at 153kg. The FZS 25, on the other hand, weights 154kg.

The rest of the bike remains largely unchanged, but India Yamaha Motor is offering a few new colour options. The FZ 25 will be available in a Metallic Black and Racing Blue, while the FZS 25 will be offered in the dual-tone Dark Cyan, Dark Matte Blue and Metallic White colour schemes, of which, the first two feature gold-coloured alloy wheels. The OEM has also added a new side-stand-down engine inhibitor, along with redesigned instrument cluster, belly pan and headlight –we hope the updated headlight offers better performance than the one on the outgoing FZ 25. Additionally, the FZS 25 gets knuckle guards too.

As far as rivals are concerned, the Yamaha FZ 25 is still the most affordable 250cc motorcycle in India but by a smaller margin. The Bajaj Dominar 250 is priced at Rs 160,000, while Suzuki’s Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF250 cost Rs 165,000 and Rs 176,000, respectively. The Husqvarna twins recently witnessed a price hike and now cost Rs 185,000, while the KTM 250 Duke continues to be the most expensive 250 at Rs 205,000.
