The Hyundai Santro is off to a strong start. As of November 4, the booking count for Hyundai’s small hatchback has exceeded 30,000 units. Online bookings for the model had opened on October 10 prior to the car’s launch on October 23.

While the number of bookings is impressive, the initial sales trend is also interesting. The AMT-equipped Santro has garnered 30 percent of bookings, exceeding the carmaker’s own projections for the automatic version of the car. Hyundai has also noted strong interest in the car’s CNG versions, which account for 21 percent of the bookings made so far. The petrol-manual Santro has received the lion’s share of bookings, with 49 percent of the orders. While the petrol-manual Santro is available in five variants, the petrol-AMT and the CNG manual get two variants each.

Of the trims, it’s the mid-spec versions that have the highest demand. The base trim D-Lite (available solely on the petrol-manual), which starts at Rs 3.89 lakh (ex-showroom, India), makes up about 9 percent of the demand. The top-spec Asta trim, available only on the petrol-manual, gets features such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen and is expected to contribute to a greater portion to sales once the initial rush of bookings is done with.

Introductory prices for the Santro are listed below and Hyundai has announced that it will revise prices after the first 50,000 bookings, so you can expect a steep rise in prices in due time.

Hyundai is upping the Santro’s production to meet demand, but for the moment, there is a waiting period for deliveries.
