Industry-Academia: Hyundai Motor India inaugurates ITI alliance in Kolkata

The collaboration with ITIs is designed to ensure community development through enhancement of education standards in line with latest technologies.

Hyundai Motor India has announced the inauguration of its ITI collaboration program in West Bengal, in partnership with the Ramakrishna Mission Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Narendrapur, Kolkata.

As a part of Hyundai’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and contribution to the Government of India’s Skill India initiative, the Korean carmaker had recently announced partnership with 25 ITIs in India. The collaboration with ITIs is designed to ensure community development through enhancement of education standards in line with latest technologies.

Hyundai as a part of the alliance will offer students specially designed curriculum, training material, car, engine, gearbox and other learning aids. The course content developed by the company will form a part of the syllabus of institutes second-year students enrolled in the Motor Mechanic Vehicle (MMV) program. It will offer exposure to modern automobile technologies thereby increasing employment opportunities and prospects. In addition, Hyundai India will also offer students an On Job Training (OJT) at its dealerships adding practical experience to the domain knowledge.

Speaking on the occasion, Tapan Ghosh, zonal head - East, Hyundai Motor India, said “We are delighted to begin our program in East with Ramakrishna Mission ITI. The collaboration has been successful implemented across 25 institutes Pan-India and this year, every state will have at least 1 institute per state associated with the program. Hyundai Motors is committed to Government of India’s “Skill India” initiative and through the program aims to increase the availability of skilled manpower in the automobile service industry.”

The Hyundai - ITI association comes on the back of the pilot program launched in 2012 across five locations. Almost 95% of trained graduates from the Skill Development Program (2012-2015) were recruited by Hyundai dealerships in 2016. Hyundai says its skill development programme has already benefited over 1,000 students who studied the course at 25 ITIs across the country in centers such as Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Sangli, Dehradun, Ludhiana, Vizag, Cochin and Sonepat.
