Hyundai Motor India has handed over advanced diagnostic testing kits for Covid-19 to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

As part of its efforts towards the relief of the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, the Korean carmaker's Indian arm has imported these test kits from South Korea to cater to the current need of the Indian government to intensify testing for the fatal disease-causing virus in the country.

Hyundai says that its donation of these supposedly accurate testing kits, worth Rs 4 crore, will help testing up to 25,000 individuals and aid the government in scaling up these tests in a highly dynamic scenario when increased testing is the only way of containing the further spread of the virus in the community.

While South Korea has been successful in controlling its number of Coronavirus cases to 10,613 as of April 16, with 7,757 patients already recovered and 227 fatalities, India is yet to see its peak with the total tally standing at 12,380 confirmed cases with 1,489 having recovered and a loss of 414 patients as of date.

Commenting on the donation, SS Kim, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said, “As a socially responsible and caring brand, Hyundai is committed to the fight against Covid-19. To provide further assistance to the government’s efforts, we have handed over the advanced diagnostic testing kits imported from South Korea. These highly accurate diagnostic kits can help the government scale up the testing efforts in affected regions and arrest the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in India."

Apart from this, the company's donations also include Rs 5 crore to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Relief Fund; augmenting supply of ventilators and other respiratory aids such as in-house developed ambu-bag actuator distribution of PPEs - masks and other safety kits and distribution of dry rations to the adversely impacted sections of the society.
