As India gears up to leapfrog to Euro 6 emission standards by 2020, companies participating at the Automotive Testing Expo in Chennai, which opened today, are looking to provide solutions to OEMs and suppliers in the areas of testing, validation and simulation.

HORIBA India, a regular participant at this expo, is focusing on providing future emission-ready solutions for OEMs. Its new product called On-board Emission Measurement System (OBS)-ONE Series provides a real-world driving emission test as well as driving simulation in the test lab by utilising STARS. This comprehensive solution offers accurate emission data from both real-road and laboratory testing conditions.

OBS-ONE is the latest portable emission measurement system design for engine/vehicle certification under real road conditions. The product was launched last year and it measures concentrations of emission, particulate matter, air-to-fuel ratio, exhaust flow rate, GPS data, and environment conditions and calculated mass emission. OBS-ONE, which is targeted at on-board vehicle emission measurement, has been supplied to Maruti Suzuki India.

Speaking to Autocar Professional, marketing manager Parikshit Sengupta said, “OEMs need to not only test their vehicles in labs but in the real world too. While doing so, they need to look at areas like emission values, ECU characteristics, OBD and fuel economy. OBS-ONE can be installed in the vehicle for accessing all the necessary data. The purpose to display the product here at the expo is to exhibit our preparedness for BS VI not only in the lab but in the real world.”

In line with its ‘Test Rig to Real World’ theme for the expo, HORIBA India says it is  ready to support OEMs on the BS VI testing front with emission solutions for passenger cars, two-wheelers, commercial vehicles and three-wheelers. It also has vehicle simulation tech for faster product development inside the lab.

HORIBA has developed broad emission test applications for certification and engine/vehicle R&D such as simulating a real-world driving event in the test cell with the Test Automotive System-STARS. This simulation requires data combined from OBS-ONE and the drive recorder.

HORIBA says it is currently working with many OEMs in India including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hyundai, Renault-Nissan, Ashok Leyland, VE Commercial Vehicles, Honda Motorcycles and Scooter, Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motors. The company also works with Tier I suppliers like Bosch and other catalyst makers.

The company is participating in the expo since inception and this year its fourth time, it has seen there is higher engagement in the show this time and the number of visitors are higher this time. According to company official, it has getting greater traction from customer and more interest in the show as this show attract only serious business visitors.
