Honda reveals India-bound BR-V and new Accord at Auto Expo
Honda Cars India, which sold 202,403 units in 2015 to notch 12.56% YoY growth, is looking to accelerate growth with the BR-V compact SUV and the ninth-generation Accord sedan.
Honda Cars India today unveiled its BR-V compact SUV at the Auto Expo 2016 in the presence of Takahiro Hachigo, president, CEO and representative officer, Honda Motor Co. The BR-V is a new-generation crossover utility vehicle which features the combination of a bold, sporty appearance and handling of an SUV together with a seven-seater cabin. Developed exclusively for the Asian market by Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co, the BR-V is scheduled to be launched in India later this year.
The company also showcased its new ninth-generation Accord flagship sedan with which it plans to re-introduce in India and strengthen its sedan line-up. The Accord is billed as a refined and advanced sedan with sporty looks, highly fuel efficient powertrain and comes loaded with features.
Speaking at the products’ reveal, Takahiro Hachigo said, "India is the largest contributor to the Asia & Oceania region and the fourth largest contributor for Honda’s automobile sales globally, making it one of the most important and fastest growing markets for us. In order to further accelerate growth in this important market, Honda is committed to continue providing challenging products, which are unique to Honda and exceed our customers’ expectation. The introduction of the BR-V is a further testament of our commitment to the market.”
Katsushi Inoue, president and CEO, Honda Cars India, said, “The year 2015 has been a very successful year for HCIL as we achieved record sales of 202,403 units in a calendar year (+12.56% YoY). The launch of exciting new models like the BR-V and Accord in 2016 will help us accelerate our growth this year and also strengthen our brand in the country.”
Another model on display is the Honda Jazz Racing Concept, a study model which has been prepared by the R&D team in India – Honda R&D Automobile India – and aims to bring the racing DNA of Honda closer to the general public.
