Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) has announced that it will replace the passenger side airbag inflator in 1,085 units of the Accord saloon and 253 units of the CR-V SUV manufactured in 2003 (including one in 2002) as a preventive measure.

The carmaker says a problem during the propellant forming process may damage the casing of the inflator when the airbag is deployed, in the event of an accident or in any other situation, thereby injuring passengers.

The recall is a part of Honda Motor Company’s global recall activity to correct a potential defect with passenger airbags announced in June this year. So far, no incident has been reported due to this possible defect.

HCIL will carry out the recall exercise in a phased manner, and the replacement will be free of cost for owners at all company dealerships across India. The affected customers will be contacted directly by Honda. Accord and CR-V owners can submit their 17-character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special microsite, created by the company (www.hondacarindia.com), to see if their vehicle needs this replacement.
