Honda posts all-time half-year record for production in Asia

Honda Motor Co today announced a summary of automobile production, Japanese domestic sales, and export results for the first half of the calendar year (January-June 2014) and the month of June 2014.

Honda Motor Co today announced a summary of automobile production, Japanese domestic sales, and export results for the first half of the calendar year (January-June 2014) and the month of June 2014.

Production in Japan for the first half of 2014 experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in two years (since the first six months of 2012).

Production in regions outside of Japan for H1 2014 saw a YoY increase for the third consecutive year (since H1 2012), setting record high production for the any half-year periods of the calendar year. This includes record high production in Asia and China. And production worldwide experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in two years (since H1 2012), setting record high production for the any half-year periods of the calendar year.

In 2013-14, Honda Cars India (HCIL) manufactured 134,073 units and sold 134,339 units. In India, according to apex industry body SIAM, HCIL manufactured 31,650 units for the first quarter of the current fiscal (2014-15) and sold 40,728 units in Q1. The company has just launched its second model this year, the Mobilio MPV. In February, it launched its new City that has sold in the region of 8,000 units a month.

HCIL has set itself an annual sales target of 300,000 units for all its vehicles by March 2017. The Japanese parent company hopes to sell six million units by March 2017, of which 1.2 million are expected to come from Asia-Oceania. HCIL will account for 25 percent of the Asia numbers.
