Honda 2Wheelers India surpasses 2m export sales
Latin America and SAARC markets lead the export demand; Honda Dio is India’s highest exported scooter.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced that it has crossed the 2 million cumulative exports mark. The company began shipping the Activa scooter in its debut year of 2001. While the first million exported units milestone came up in 14 years, the next million has taken three years.
Honda currently exports 16 models to 28 markets across Asia-Oceania, Latin America, Middle East and Europe. Honda is the No. 1 scooter exporter with a 60 percent market share. While every second scooter exported from India is a Honda Dio, motorcycle exports continue to see double-digit growth and contribute over half to Honda’s total exports.
Commenting on the export milestone, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior vice-president - Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, “Backed by strong domestic sales, India is already the No. 1 contributor to Honda’s global two-wheeler sales. On the exports front, our trifold strategy of introducing new models, entering new markets while consolidating in existing markets has resulted in achieving the 2 million export milestone. The future is exciting as the BS-VI norms, effective in 2020, will unlock new markets for us.”
