Giving cosmetic changes to its bestseller in the executive commuter segment (125cc), the CB Shine, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has rolled out the 2014 edition of the model. The minor changes include new graphics and two new colour options – pearl amazing white and dual-tone red and black, in addition to the existing colour options of black, grey and red. According to the company, the cosmetically upgraded models will sell at the prevailing prices (across the CB Shine variants) without any additional costs.

"The CB Shine is the largest-selling 125cc motorcycle in India. Acknowledging the evolving customer’s needs, Honda has regularly reinvented the model. Maintaining crisp power with time trusted Honda technology, the new style sheet will further up the style quotient of the CB Shine,” said Y S Guleria, vice-president, sales & marketing, HMSI.

In April earlier this year, HMSI had rolled out the three millionth CB Shine model at its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, making it the all-time best-selling 125cc commuter motorcycle in India. The company claims that every third 125cc motorcycle sold in India is the Honda CB Shine, which commanded a market share of nearly 33 percent in its segment during FY2013-14.

In the global market too, this model (Honda’s CB Shine) became the best-selling 125cc motorcycle from Honda’s two-wheeler operations worldwide for the first time during FY2014. The model, which is available in three variants (kick-drum-spoke, self-drum-alloy and self-disc-alloy) in India, primarily competes with Hero MotoCorp’s 125cc Glamour variants and Super Splendor model, Bajaj Auto’s 125cc Discover variants, TVS Motor Company’s Phoenix 125 (largely in the south Indian markets), and Suzuki Motorcycle’s 125cc commuter Slingshot Plus (in some pockets in north India).

To meet ever-increasing demand of the CB Shine models, other than the Tapukara plant (near Manesar), HMSI is also manufacturing them at its Narsapura plant near Bangalore.
