Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is set to launch the Navi crossover and the CBR650 sportsbike in Nepal soon.

The Navi, which has opened up an all-new two wheeler segment of a scooter-motorcycle hybrid, sold 11,644 units in July 2016, making it the 10th bestselling model in the Indian market. The Navi, which is powered by the proven 110cc scooter engine that powers the Activa, Dio and Aviator models, was unveiled at the Auto Expo in February earlier this year. HMSI is looking at all all-India rollout of the Navi by end-September.

End-September is also when HMSI will open a second production line at the new Gujarat plant. As a result of this plant going on stream earlier this year, the backlog of 35,000 scooters has now come down to 18,000. The company, which has a 5,400-strong dealer network, plans to add over 800 new dealerships in FY2017, with 90% of them to come up in Tier 2 and 3 cities.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the SIAM annual convention in New Delhi today, YS Guleria, senior vice-president (sales and marketing), HMSI, said the company is set to achieve 6.4 million units capacity by mid-2017 when the fourth production line at the Bangalore plant goes on stream. With that, the Bangalore facility will have a total capacity of 2.4 million units, making it the largest Honda two-wheeler plant worldwide.
