Government collects Rs 69,809 crore from cess on petrol and diesel in FY2015-16

The cess imposed on petrol and diesel by the Indian government has seen a massive collection of Rs 69,809 crore in FY2015-16.

As per a PTI report today, the cess on motor spirit (petrol) saw a collection of Rs 17,217 crore and Rs 52,592 crore through the cess on high-speed diesel. This information was provided by Minister of State for Finance, Santosh Kumar Gangwar to the Rajya Sabha today.

There is also an additional excise duty levied on petrol and diesel with the levies being a cess towards the Central Road Fund Act 2000.
