General Motors suspends production at Talegaon plant

The Talegaon facility manufactures products for GM's export.

General Motors has suspended production at its Talegaon manufacturing facility in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak since March 21 and will continue till March 31.

Asif Khatri, vice president of Manufacturing, GM India, stated that, “The safety and wellbeing of our employees is the utmost priority”.  These steps are necessary in the fight against the spread of Covid-19.  We stand in solidarity with the Government of Maharashtra’s initiatives to stop the spread of this pandemic”.

Though GM has stopped sales in the domestic market in December 2017, the Talegaon facility manufactures products for GM's export.  

Incidentally, GM’s this facility is Talegaon will see a change in owner around the year end with Chinese automobile major Great Wall Motors announcing an agreement with GM India for its sale.
