G S Auto reveals Peccan EV concept, plans production in 2021

Ludhiana components manufacturer looks to diversify into EVs, claims Peccan concept can travel 200km on a single charge.

Ludhiana-based GS Auto, one of the leading manufacturers of automotive suspension and fastening components in India, took the covers off its first concept vehicle – the electric Peccan and also the Grease. The company had showcased these two products along with its automotive components portfolio at the Auto Expo Components Show 2020 in New Delhi last month.

The two-seater Peccan electric car, which comes with two battery pack options, 60kWh and 80kWh, can be recharged using any conventional outlet and is capable of a fast charge of an hour and 30 minutes. GS Auto International claims its powertrain delivers instant torque and a smooth drive and up to 200km range on a single charge. The metal-bodied Peccan's highlights include a 12-inch in-dash display with driver controls, vehicle app with web connectivity, web browsing and navigation.

According to the company, the Peccan will be priced competitively with other premium two-wheelers. It will be built at the G S Auto International plant in Ludhiana, Punjab. Production begins in early 2021 with deliveries begin late 2021; the company is targeting volumes of 10,000-15,000 units per annum. Along with the Peccan EV concept, GS Auto also showcased its complete range of products.

Targeting sustainability
Spearheaded by entrepreneur Harkirat Singh Ryait, G S Auto has its manufacturing facilities in Ludhiana in North India and Jamshedpur in Eastern India, spread over 1.2 million square feet. The company supplies its varied products to domestic and global Tier 1 and automobile majors including Arvin Meritor, Ashok Leyland, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, Hindustan Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki India, SML Isuzu, Tata Motors, Taco Hendrickson Suspensions, VE Commercial Vehicles and Volvo.
