French battery systems maker Forsee Power has started series production of lithiuim-ion batteries for electric two- and three-wheelers in Pune. It may be recollected, that in December 2020, Forsee Power had appointed Durga Akhnoor to lead its India operations.

In January this year, Autocar Professional had revealed  the company’s India plans including investment of 10 million euros (Rs 82 crore). Foresee Power is betting on India’s ambitious drive for electrification and will partner OEMs in the two-, three-wheeler and the bus segments.

Forsee Power is targeting two- and three-wheeler OEMs in India first. It will explore business with CV makers later.

The company has employed 30 people and plans to expand to 50 staffers by end-201 for the production, sales and aftersales functions. Forsee Power says serial production of batteries for light electric vehicles in its Pune factory started on May 12, 2021.

The French company says it will extend its range to high voltage systems for bus, marine, rail, industrial and commercial vehicles in 2023. The target for its India production is to progressively reach 1 GWh in 2025.

High-tech facility in Pune
The new facility is equipped with state-of-the art assembly lines as well as laboratories and testing capabilities. It includes automatic spot-welding capabilities on cylindrical cells, production and control equipment, BMS testers as well as high-voltage and end-of-line testing equipment.

Another line will be added later this year to ramp up production capacities for light electric vehicles, especially for three-wheelers, which are a key area of focus in the FAME 2 scheme.

Committed to limiting impact on the climate and environment, Forsee Power says it has set a Sustainability Roadmap toward 2025 in which the Pune plant will take an active part. To reach a 50 percent share of renewable energy in the plant’s energy consumption, solar panel will be installed. Other objectives include reduction in production waste and a rate of 100 percent of waste sent for recycling or revalorisation.
