Ford India is all set to commence sales of the much-awaited iconic Mustang from Q2 of 2016, sometime between April-June. Since the Mustang went on sale for the first time in 1964, Ford has sold more than 9 million vehicles globally.  The clean sheet design of the new Mustang for India retains the essential traits of the brand –including the long sculpted hood and short rear deck. But a  lower wider stance with a reduction in roof height and wider rear fenders and track are the key design features that define the new Mustang headed to India.

The Mustang has been extensively tested on Indian roads with the deck cleared for its formal launch by statutory body, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI); Nigel Harris, president of Ford India, told Autocar Professional

This is the American carmaker’s bid to highlight Ford’s commitment to innovation in India and with the Mustang it is bringing to India a slew of products suited to the varying needs of Indian  consumers.

“Throughout its long history the Ford Mustang has been a symbol of optimism and confidence for people all over the world,” said Harris at its unveiling in Delhi today. “The new Mustang is a modern interpretation of the American icon and we are thrilled to be giving our customers in India the opportunity to experience this piece of automotive history for the first time.”

The Mustang’s interiors are inspired by the aviation cockpit and a large high-definition display screen enables vehicle information right in front of the driver in the roomier cabin while improved ergonomics and tactile switches and knobs provide better control.

This India bound iconic and sporty saloon comes with an increased width and a new rear suspension that facilitates an improved shoulder and hip room for rear seat passengers and a trunk to accommodate two golf bags.

Ford engineers have equipped the Mustang with new front and rear suspension systems and better wheel control that leads to a smoother ride quality. A throaty 5.0L V8 with an upgraded valve train and cylinder heads deliver over 420hp and 529 Nm of torque. A new intake manifold improves low-speed breathing for higher fuel economy, idle stability and emissions.

The new Mustang features Ford’s smart technologies–SYNC connectivity system that allows drivers to control their in-car entertainment with voice commands, keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Premium features like navigation, push button start, passive entry, power folding mirrors and a rear camera come as standard.

The Mustang also offers selectable drive modes to juggle between normal, snow, wet, sport and track modes for quickly adjusting the steering wheel. Interior lighting can be customised by MyColor gauges.

“The new Ford Mustang is a one of its kind vehicle and is going to appeal to Indian drivers who value the style, performance and heritage that the Mustang name brings,” said Harris. “With advanced new technology, an iconic design and world class power, it truly sets a new standard.”
