CV upholds the uptrend in August '22

CV upholds the uptrend in August '22

Tata Motors, in its domestic CV segment recorded a total of 29,313 unit sales in August 2022. This figure represents 12 percent growth over August last year when it sold 26,172 units. According to the company, within the commercial vehicle segment, it notched sales of 8,727 units in August 2022 for MHCV category — a growth of 49 percent when compared to 5,840 units during corresponding period last year.

Likewise, ILCV wholesales figures stood at 4,106 units registering an 11 percent decline over 4,627 units in August 2021.

The brand’s passenger carrier segment grew by 170 percent to 2,299 units when compared with 850 units during the comparable period.

There was also a marginal drop in the SCV cargo and pickup segment — around 5 percent with sales of 14,181 units in August 2022 as against 14,855 units in August last year.

Chennai-based Ashok Leyland has reported that its domestic sales during August 2022 stood at 13,301 units, an increase of 58 per cent over 8,400 units in August 2021. The biggest surge was recorded in MHCV segment which grew by 92 percent to 7,671 units during August this year from 3,986 units in the same period last year; LCVs sales also went up by 28 percent to 5,630 units in August 2022 as compared to 4,414 units in August last year.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) within its various CV categories also reports robust performance. Sales of its 2-tonne LCV stood at 3,896 units in August 2022 — a 125 percent jump over corresponding period last year when it reported sales of 1,734 units. 

Similarly, the LCVs in the 2-3.5tonne category, sales went up by 157 percent to 16,940 units over the previous period last year when it logged 6,595 units. In the 3.t-tonne plus LCV category, sales grew to 656 units which is 28 percent higher over the previous comparable period when it was 512 units.

Further, three-wheelers including e-3W, saw a growth of 85 percent to 4,793 units during August 2022 when compared to 2,591 units in August 2021.

VE Commercial Vehicles (A Volvo Group and Eicher Motors joint venture), the company's domestic CV market recorded sales of Eicher branded trucks and buses have recorded sales of 4,893 units in August 2022 as compared to 4,667 units in August 2021, representing growth of 4.8 percent. The Volvo Trucks and Volvo Buses, on other hand, have recorded sales of 110 units in August 2022 as compared to 126 units in August 2021, representing a growth of 12.7 percent.
