In the first month of the new fiscal, VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) has registered sales of 5,365 units in April 2016, up 36.5% year on year (April 2015: 3,930). The sales comprised 5,326 Eicher trucks and buses and 39 Volvo trucks.

In April 2016, Eicher-branded trucks and buses sold a total of 5,326 units, up 38.8% (April 2015: 3,838). In the domestic CV market, Eicher sold a total of 4,641 units, up 32.5% (April 2015: 3,503). However, with sales of 39 units in April 2016, Volvo trucks saw a decline of 57.6% (April 2015: 92).

On the export front, Eicher shipped 685 units as compared to 335 units in April 2015, clocking growth of 104.5%.

Last month, VECV entered the sub-5-tonne light commercial vehicle (LCV) market with its new Pro 1049 series mini-truck, which is targeted at the growing need for last-mile connectivity in semi-urban and urban India.

With this new launch, VECV looks to challenge the dominance of Tata Motors’ popular 407 in the LCV category.

In 2015-16, VECV sold a total of 44,271 units, growing by 26% (2014-15: 35,128), increasing its overall market share to 6.46% (2014-15: 5.71%).
