Ceat has announced the launch of its new range of Milaze tyres that will cater exclusively to the scooter segment in the two-wheeler industry.
In a statement, the company says that the Milaze will be available in sizes 3.50-10 TT and 90/100-10 TT, and offer an improved load-carrying capacity with high mileage. The range will be available in key markets across the country.
Ceat says the Milaze tyre is designed to suit the need of the business community using scooters for day-to-day business. This indicates that the company hopes to position the tyres at the higher end of the segment.
The Milaze range come with a high bead strength and flatter tread profile. A higher NSD (non-skid depth) coupled with the flatter tread profile provides a better tyre life, the company says. The presence of sturdy blocks with sipes in the tyres make it excellent in providing good traction and uniform wear, and the deep shoulder grooves ensure excellent water pumping on wet surfaces.
Ceat’s new product aims at catering to a booming scooter segment. According to SIAM, scooter sales increased by 18 percent in February 2015 alone while for the April 2014-February 2015 period, scooter sales rose by 26 percent.
Some months ago, Ceat said it planned to invest Rs 400 crore in a plant at Butibori near Nagpur, Maharashtra, which will be set up in three phases. The first phase of the project, which began in 2014, goes on to 2016.
